  1. Re: decoding QR – Decades ago, before scanners were common, company I worked for created custom meter faces and wanted to be able to include small logos or shapes on them.
We purchased the official documentation for the fax encoding and used our multiline phone system to send a fax from a machine to a fax card in a PC.
I wrote a program that read the file and decoded the scan lines into a text DXF file so that our cad user could open it in autocad and trace the outlines.

  2. Rivian range: Does your camper have a generator on it that could run a low level charger? Would be a way to hack a longer range when pulling it.

Yes, I am the weird person that would at least try it to find out.

    • No generator, but it wouldn’t help all that much. EVs in general charge three ways:
      – DC “fast” chargers. Think Tesla’s supercharger network, but there are also now many 3rd party networks as well. Basically gas stations for electrons. Depending on the capacity (there’s lots of variation), they can fully charge my Rivian in about two hours or so.
      – 240v – Look up NEMA 14-50 sockets. You’ll find those at trailer campsites, often. Some people will have one of these added to their home when they get an EV if they can. Charges basically “overnight”. It’s the cell-phone scenario: you plug in when you get home, and in the morning you have a full “tank” of electrons. But it is multi-hour, so perfect for overnight. Unfortunately many of the commercial charging stations you might see provide only this or an equivalent, which limits their usefulness.
      – 120v – your wall plug (and what most generators would provide). A charging source of very very last resort. I think it would take something like 2-3 days to fully charge my car. Pragmatically if forced to use this you would charge only long enough to make it to one of the previous options. Again, hours. If you’re running a generator that’s a LOT of (fossil) fuel.
