In the European (all non-US countries’) long scale system, the prefixes like “bi-“, “tri-“, and so on indicate the power to which a million is raised. For example, a billion is a million squared (1,000,000 × 1,000,000), and a trillion is a million cubed. This means each new term represents a million multiplied by itself one more time. The European system is logical. The US system is weird.
Somehow, the US is off by 3 digits and what the Europeans call a billion is a trillion in the US etc. The US system would upset Spock
