  1. I think that the two of you are on the money about how sat messages will work with iffy signal, basically, like SMS. There are times with poor cell signal, even when not really away from civilization.
    Most people don’t realize how little cell signal is needed for messaging. Even when you cannot get a signal that is consistent enough for voice, messages can sneak through in the bits of signal that is there.
    Found that out a decade or so ago on Madeline Island in Lake Superior. (BTW a great place to visit for the laid-back atmosphere). most of the island had almost no signal but could contact friends who were elsewhere on the island by texts.
