Gary, if you like books dealing with historic sailing expeditions and their survival fight once shipwrecked, try reading about the 19th- and early 20th-century expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. Ernest Shackleton was one such explorer to the Antarctic (check him on Wikipedia). And in the Arctic, there were several expeditions doomed looking for the “Northwest Passage” (see the 1845 Franklin expedition). Several good books available.
Thanks Ed! It is funny you should mention that. I recently read the book Erebus: One Ship, Two Epic Voyages, and the Greatest Naval Mystery of All Time by Michael Plain and loved it.
